Macro Monday – Iridescence
The true mystery of the world is the visible, not the invisible.
- Oscar Wilde Quotes
The most interesting thing about Macro Photography is that it changes the size of your world. Where a landscape photographer might take a photo of a whole field of flowers, a macro photographer needs only one flower. That one flower can be broken down into parts that become almost unrecognizable to someone who has never seen a flower from that perspective.
I’ve just started to use a Macro Lens, and I don’t claim to be anything but an inexperienced novice. It is hard not to be excited, however, about a whole new world that exists within my every day world!
On that note, do you recognize the object in this photo?

Getting Closer to Everyday Things: Weekly Photo Challenge: Wonder

Hi,
I have never used a Macro Lens, but I know the photos from these are unreal, and I agree it is like a different world.
I will take a wild guess at the photo, It looks like a palm leaf, although the colour doesn’t seem right, it’s the first thing that came to mind.
That’s what I thought – some kind of leaf, but the color looks different. Very cool!
Another vote for a leaf, and another observation that the color is very different. However, it isn’t a leaf.
I’ll mark down one vote for palm leaf, and tell you the answer later.
It looks to me like a milkweed pod. I love the idea of take pictures of nature so that what we take for granted becomes something we must ponder…
The voting still favours the plant kingdom, but it isn’t a leaf or a pod. Yes, I agree that something we take for granted becomes mysterious when we see just a little bit of it.
A feather! Love it.
I think I accidentally cheated. I didn’t see “feather” until I read this comment. Now that’s what I see.
I love the Oscar Wilde quote. Quite fitting!
A brush in a car wash
Interesting choice, but it isn’t a car wash brush.
My guess was a feather too, maybe with frost on it or something?
No, just the natural colour of the feather – it changes with the light.
A feather!
Yes, a feather.
It looks like a feather to me. Beautiful! I’m tempted to get a Macro Lens…
I’m sure you would enjoy a macro lens
To all you feather people, yes you are right. It is the feather from one of the neighbourhood magpies.
Such an exquisite shot. I came late to the party but guessed it was a feather because of the iridescence.
Right you are!
Darn! I thought it was some fabric from my old sharkskin suit… : P
Sharkskin suit – what a rogue you were!
It reminds me of a feather. I’ll check your comments to see if you revealed what it is yet.
Yes, a feather!
