Winter of 2011-2012: Last Snow Day?
Oh the weather outside is frightful,
But the fire is so delightful,
And since we’ve no place to go,
Let It Snow! Let It Snow! Let It Snow!
- Lyricist Sammy Cahn, composer Jule Styne – 1945
Calendar – May 4, 2012 – The Car Guy mowed the lawn for the first time this year.
Calendar – May 5, 2012 – 4 inches of snow.
Also on May 5, the Hibiscus bloomed. It is an indoor plant with brilliant red flowers.
Green grass, Red flower, White snow – felt very Christmasy!

More Snow Photos: Weekly Photo Challenge: Winter

Gorgeous photos…almost sounds like weather in Maine, though not this year! I also love the new header photo!!!
We’ve had a fairly mild winter this year too. Last winter was brutal, so we are certainly not going to complain about a few inches of snow in May this year!
Header photos are a great way to change up a blog, aren’t they!
Margie beautiful photo’s
Thanks Pensioner!
So in other words, a typical Albertan May.
Typical May, yes, though we often get a dump of a foot or so of snow after the leaves come out on the trees. The leaves are just coming out now, so I won’t be surprised if the big spring snow is yet to come!
Four inches of snow in May? The snow picture is like a post card, the Hibiscus is too beautiful!
Four inches – just a dusting in this part of the world!
Yes, the hibiscus flower is beautiful and quite amazing on a plant that is just a scruffy old thing that I rescued from the kids apartment when they were in University. The plant was scruffy then, and it is scruffy now, and it only ever puts out one or two blooms at a time.
That must be a testament to your nurturing abilities. Just one or two blooms a year must make the experience of seeing one kind of special.
Before I went overseas, I had over 50 house plants. I left them all with my daughter (along with the house) to look after. When I got home, there were only 4 house plants left. One of them was the hibiscus, so I think it is less my nurturing abilities, and more the tenacity of the plant.
Snow? Wow…don’t send it my way, that’s all I ask! The good thing about snow this time of the years that is disappears as quickly as it arrived…usually.
love the pics.
Yes, it does disappear in a hurry and doesn’t do much damage unless the temperature dips below freezing for too long.
Hi,
What a lovely combination, and green grass as well, at least it is starting to warm up a little bit for everyone. Very nice photos.
It wasn’t a hard winter, but we are still looking forward to the return of warm weather!
Oh, your contrasts are beautiful! Especially the deep deep red of the hibiscus… Great photos! Thanks for sharing.
Thanks Dor. Finding contrasts is something I like to do.
Beautiful pictures for, hopefully, your last snow of this season!
Hopefully the last, but the weather is always unpredictable in this part of the world.
No way! I’ve forgotten what snow looks like! And I live near the Canadian border in New York…
You hibiscus is gorgons!
Just goes to show that some parts of Canada have a bit milder climate than we have out west!
And sometimes we get dumped with snow. Crazy weather patterns of late…
I typed a comment last week, but wasn’t signed into my tablet,so I lost the comment. I’m glad the hibiscus/snow photo is still here. I needed to come back and admire it some more. Such beauty of extremes.
Come back any time.
That was exactly what I thought when I posted the photos – the extreme difference between the outside weather and the inside flower. The Hibiscus flower was even ‘looking’ outside, as much to say “What the hell is happening out there! I thought it was finally spring!”
Ah! Nothing like the smell of freshly mown… uh… snow… : (
Gorgeous photo, even tho we can’t see the Car Guy’s handiwork!
Freshly mowed grass does have a wonderful smell, that is for sure.
Wow! Well, when spring finally comes, you will love it all the more! Beautiful photos.
Yes, it will be nice when the risk of frost or snow season passes.
Love the photos. So glad we are done with snow. (Fingers are crossed just in case because you just never know.)
Yes, please, keep your fingers crossed for my part of the world too. The temp is barely above freezing this morning.
Great shots Margie and wishing you a warm summer! Greeting btw from the UK, in June, where I am sitting by the fire . . .
I had read the UK was having some rather cool weather. We haven’t had much warm weather here either.
