Macro Monday – Scales
Do you need a clue or two to help you identify this photo? Okay, the mystery object is scaly and it grows on trees. No, don’t beg or plead. That is the only hint I am going to give you.

Normally I would insert a quotation about scales here, but it appears that no one has found a way to say something profound about (close your eyes if you don’t want to know what the object is) conifer cones.
However, while I was researching on the internet I found a small series of quotations that illustrate a different kind of scale. I thought they were immensely funny, but maybe it is because I found them on a Sunday morning, not a Monday morning. Sunday is a much happier day than Monday, don’t you think?
Here are two of the best. If you know of, or can think of any others, be sure to add them to the comments.
On a scale of Voldemort to Pinocchio, how Nosy are you?

On a scale of One to Osama Bin Laden how good was my hiding spot?

Here is another Macro that I really liked: Macro Monday – Drips
Scaly and grows on trees?? At first I thought it was some kind of frosted breakfast cereal!
I tried to think of what else the photo might look like, and frosted breakfast cereal wasn’t on my list.
DAMN!!! I’m with Brown Road Chronicles.. I thought it was marshmallows toasted to a perfect crunchy caramel color and sitting on a slab of chocolate and graham cracker!! I think I’m going to make a s’more!!!
I didn’t see a s’more in the photo, but your suggestion sure makes me want to go make one.
Talk about seeing what you want to see, Carol…but you go girl!
Oh, God, I thought this was going to be about weight! A relief, I love pine cones
No, nothing about weight. For that, you would have to go to my post about The Strawberry Diet!
You had me going, I would’ve never guessed this one. Before I got to where you told it was a conifer cone, I was thinking it may be some sort of lizard that lives in the trees. lol Wouldn’t I of looked silly with that guess.
Great macro and fun quotes.
Conifer cones litter my yard, so it was very easy to find a photogenic one. You might be more familiar with lizards than pine cones, so a lizard guess wouldn’t be silly at all!
I guess I never thought of pine cones as scaly, but that’s what I thought right away. Lovely, and I love the crystal sap photo!
Thanks Peg – I remember you wanted some of those sap crystals to be made into earrings!
Yeah, how are you coming on those?
No forward progress in this project at all. Sorry.
Hmmmph.
The top one also looks like a pineapple.
You are right – it does look like a pineapple. I hadn’t thought of that.
Very cool shot, Margie! Looked like some delicious fresh-outta-the-oven rolls to me. I think I need a snack…
Loved the nosy scale quote. Took a minute for it to kick in: old Voldemort doesn’t have much of a beezer, so of course he’s low man… ha! : )
I didn’t see oven fresh rolls in that photo! I think most of my readers must have been hungry when they visited my blog.
I loved the wordplay and double meaning of that quote.
Mollie and I got it right away… the cone part… not the conifer part…
You seem to guess most of my macros. I guess I’ll have to think of something more obscure.
Lovely photo
Thanks Cardinal. I loved the texture and the warm colours.
