iSee Ladybugs

Ladybugs all dressed in red
Strolling through the flowerbed.
If I were tiny just like you
I’d creep among the flowers too!
- Maria Fleming -

The Ladybug wears no disguises.
She is just what she advertises.
A speckled spectacle of spring,
A fashion statement on the wing….
A miniature orange kite.
A tiny dot-to-dot delight.
- J. Patrick Lewis, “The Little Buggers” -

The ladybug’s a beetle.
It’s shaped like a pea.
Its color is a bright red
With lots of spots to see.
Although the name is ladybug
Some ladybugs are men.
So why don’t we say “gentleman bug”
Every now and then?
- Author Unknown -

How brave a ladybug must be!
Each drop of rain is big as she.
Can you imagine what you’d do,
If raindrops fell as big as you?
- Aileen Fisher -

iQuote – Life Is

  • 2011-WineLife is like a jigsaw puzzle but you don’t have the picture on the front of the box to know what it’s supposed to look like. Sometimes, you’re not even sure if you have all of the pieces. (from the book, A Whack on the Side of the Head)
  • Life is easier if you dread only one day at a time. Charles M. Schulz
  • Life is hard. Then you die. In between you are a volunteer. Unknown (This was my ‘mantra’ during all those years of being on Volunteer Boards!)
  • Life is lumpy. And a lump in the oatmeal, a lump in the throat and a lump in a breast are not the same lump. One should learn the difference. Robert Fulghum (I collected quotes like this when our youngest child had cancer.)

Wit and Wisdom

I collect humourous quotations and combine them with photos. Then I print them and put them into binders and give them to my family and friends. I’ve made quite a few of these books over the years. Some day I’d like to recreate them on my computer so that I can look at them too!

Many of the quotations I collect are Epigrams, which are short, clever and memorable sayings.  They are wit and wisdom presented in a concise statement. Ingenious, thoughtful, pithy and sometimes caustic or satirical, the definition of an epigram can be longer than an actual epigram itself!  Twitter would be a much better forum if everyone was required to use epigrams.

I also like the Pun, or ”Groaner“, which is described as being verbal acrobatics. It is a play upon words that uses the ambiguity between similar-sounding words for humorous purposes.

And I can’t resist the Understatement which makes a situation seem much less serious or important than it actually is. British humouroften makes use of the understatement.
