Life, Time, and Where Is it Going

The answer to the great question of… Life, the Universe and Everything…is… Forty-two.
– Douglas Adams –

Another answer, equally accurate, is Eleventy-seven. In this case, the question was a query about how many hits people were getting on their blog per day. But it is an equally valid answer for other great questions, yes?

The New Year seems to make people reflect on where their life has been and where it is going. For many bloggers, this is a time to think about, and perhaps reappraise why they blog.  Of the blogs I follow, a common motive for blogging is that the person had something to say, and they wanted to share with people who were willing to invest a bit of time to read their words.

Another  common thread I have found is that many bloggers were reluctant to share the existence  of their blog with the people they were closest to. I understand that. It is far easier to be judged or ignored by strangers, than it is to be judged or ignored by family and friends.  Of course, it takes a bit of time and effort to find these strangers, but once they are tracked down, a world of new ideas and information is at your fingertips.

And that brings me back to the thread that is running through this post. Time. A New Year reminds us that Time keeps marching on. There is only so much of it, and there is no guarantee how much of it you have left. So decide where you want to spend it, and with whom you want to spend it. That is the answer to the great question of Life, I think.

Time, obviously, is relative. Two weeks on a vacation is not the same as two weeks on a diet.

  1. I enjoyed this very much – thank you for the reminder that time well (and enjoyably) spent is really what I need to focus on with my writing, not the numbers and statistics!

    • Thanks Bee. I agree that the writing is what is enjoyable, and the numbers and statistics aren’t that important… but I still find it interesting to watch which posts are getting the most hits from search engines. My two top sellers are the one about the 1980 Corvette, and the one about Pots and Pans. I really don’t know why people keep finding them.
