In the Woods

Everything in the country, animate and inanimate, seems to whisper, be serene, be kind, be happy. We grow tolerant there unconsciously.

Early fall in the wooded area near our house. Color levels adjusted, slight sharpening

The only people I am aware of who don’t have troubles are gathered in peaceful, little neighborhoods. There is never a care, never a moment of stress and never an obstacle to ruin a day. All is calm. All is serene. Most towns have at least one such worry-free zone. We call them cemeteries.

  1. What beautiful pictures! Since moving to a forested property (4+ acres) in the country, I’ve become much more calm and serene. There is something about being surrounded by ‘gentle giants’ that whisper in the wind and sigh on a summer’s day that banishes all stress.

    1. Yes Mark, Fanny Fern – it is the pen name of Sara Willis (1811 – 1872). She was an American newspaper columnist, humorist and novelist. She is credited with coining the phrase, “The way to a man’s heart is through his stomach.” I think I could do a whole blog post of Fanny Fern quotations such as this: “To the Pilgrim Mothers, who not only had their full share of the hardships and privations of pioneer life but also had the Pilgrim Fathers to endure.”
